A champion for a better future in Bay of Quinte
Neil Ellis was first elected as the Member of Parliament for the Bay of Quinte in 2015.
Born and raised in Belleville, Ontario, Neil has had a long history of contributing to the Bay of Quinte community. He owned and operated a successful local business for nearly 30 years and served two terms as Mayor for the City of Belleville. For nearly 6 years as your Member of Parliament, he has continued to be a strong advocate for local infrastructure investments, which he sees as key to promoting economic growth and creating a better quality of life for local residents.
In 2010, as Mayor of Belleville, Neil championed the construction of the Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Moira River, named in honour of Canadian military veterans. In 2012, he was made a Honourary Major of the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment for his service to veterans in Belleville and the surrounding area. In 2019, his Private Member’s Motion, M-225, which called on the Government to prevent and end veteran homelessness in Canada by 2025 passed unanimously in the House of Commons. At the end of that year, he was named the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food, and has been working hard to advocate and work with the people and organizations that feed our communities.
His work in the Bay of Quinte has aimed to positively influence all areas of life for residents, from improving internet service and broadband connectivity, to accessibility, youth training and employment, food security, health access, and support for seniors.
Neil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Psychology from Carleton University. He also received Chartered Director and Human Resources Compensation Committee Certification professional designations through The Directors College.
He and his wife, Susan, have raised three children: Zachary, Maddison, and Abigail.
